NMR data backup with WinSCP

WinSCP is a secure ftp program that can be downloaded from the Internet for free. Our computer room PC`s and the process computer in the NMR room already have it downloaded and configured.

 To configure:

1.       After downloading and installing WinSCP, start it and click on "New".

2.       Host name: nmr400-1.uchicago.edu, username, password: the same as what you use to logon to the NMR machines before taking a spectrum.

3.       Click "Save" and give it a name like nmr400-1.

4.       Repat steps 2 and 3 for the other NMR machines (Host name: nmr500-1.uchicago.edu, nmr500-2.uchicago.edu, etc.).

To use:

1.       Start WinSCP and double-click on one of the stored locations to access it.

2.       In the window that appears, the left panel is the local computer, the right one is the remote computer.

3.       If you are a first-time user, set up shortcut to the appropriate folder on the remote computer by clicking on the right panel and then on the bookmark icon  (Ctrl+O).

4.       In the new window, in the "Open directory" field type "/m/data/username/nmr", where username is your NMR username.

5.       Click "Add" and Ok".

6.       If  you are a returning user, open the bookmark, select your shortcut and either double-click on it or click "Ok".

7.       Now you can click&drag folders and/or files to the left panel (local computer) into any specific folder. (Note: you can also bookmark locations on the local computer the same way as described above for the remote location).
